Summertime, and the living is easy…

This famous jazz standard, written by George Gershwin for the musical “Porgy and Bess,” is an uplifting song, nestled in a story of pain and heartache, love and cruelty. So goes life, and in this year, when summer seems to be evading the east coast, when the economy and world events remain troubling, I find comfort in the third stanza:

One of these mornings
You’re going to rise up singing
Then you’ll spread your wings
And you’ll take to the sky

Maybe you are reading this on a day when the sun is shining, and you can grab your flip flops and hat and head to the beach or lake or park with some lemonade, a friend, and a good book. I hope you find some time this summer to spread your wings and take to the sky!
